A lot of parents are always confused about purchasing a bunk bed for their children as they often get confused on if they should buy it or not. In some cases, parents often take their children to the furniture store to check how easy it will be for them to climb and come down from the bed. They are however oblivious of other important things they should check out for while shopping for a childs bunk bed such as safety, space and durability amongst others. Here are some tips for parents who are intending to get a bunk bed for their children.
Is it possible to separate the beds
Parents who are planning on having more than one kids per room often plan towards getting a twin bunk bed. The twin bunk bed allows 2 children to sleep on a particular bed, which are created that way to save space. There are however instances where the 2 beds were bought in advance of another child joining the child later. When this is the case, parents could decide to buy a twin bed that can be separated so that only a single bed is left in the room. When it is time for the other child to join in, the second bed can subsequently be added.
It is vital to check that the ladder that is fixed on the bed for the child to use in climbing is firmly fixed. This will help to avoid the ladder slipping in the process of the child climbing it and in the process, injuring the child. Furthermore, while detachable ladder might seem more convenient, the probability of the ladder removing when a child is climbing it is also higher. This is considering the fact that children might have partially detached it without the parents knowing.
It is imperative that bolts or screws are always fixed to fit the guardrails to the bed. This will make it difficult for the guardrail to pop off or tip over, due to the weight of the child. It is also vital that the space between the guardrail’s bottom and the childs bunk bed frame is less than 89 mm or 3.5 inches. The importance of this is that your child will not fall in between the bed and guardrail. It is also vital that the length of the guardrail above the bed is at a minimum of 127 mm or 5 inches.
